Character Concepts.

M2 Applying comparisons to my own concepts:

Some of my Character designs where produced in pencil and fine liner and silhouette sketches because of attention to detail and how the movement and action is shown within each characters such as the early eye and mouth, nose and hair developments this influenced the stages for the characters to be formed using various colour to identify the hair and facial skin tones.

The early sketches of Ahab was the character development through body forms and structure this has been created by the uses of I applied the basic sketches and basic colours to this form because of ideas forming to what my future character could then look like I changed the hair changed the clothing from the basic form just because he didn’t look much of sea captain at the beginning of my sketches.

Ishmael has also changed concepts from the body form sketches to detailed sketches and developments from the clothing to a hooded top, which identifies him as a person and the same for Ahab showing identifications of change from the original sketch developments changed hair, I changed features like this because of the uses of a developed sketch and final images in to a more finished outcome of colour and clothing formations to the characters.

Also for the changes for Captain Boomer and all the other characters showing fine liner and silhouettes in development stages from the original stages and also study development concepts in pencil studies also the finished view which is the original final images.

Elijah also using the concept of original pencil work and also silhouette images to show what this would look like as a development from the pencil study then following on to the final image design. Also the study of Moby Dick showing developments between the original pencil study to the different concepts of the silhouette study and the final images using fine liner and paint and pencil, also showing the concept of Ahab and Moby Dick of my main characters as a digital image of finalization.

Silhouette Designs: Ahab, Elijah, Ishmael, Captain Boomer, and Moby Dick.

FMP Proposal:

FMP (Final Major Project Proposal)

For my final major project I want to focus on the traditional elements I like canvas painting (if possible) and just painting in general since not a lot of this work has been covered this year also I enjoy a lot of traditional experimentation and working with this, I will need to use Photoshop if I need to scan work in to experiment with colour may be Illustrator to experiment with font and vector uses over this if I have time. I want to base this project on my favourite indie band ‘The Maccabees’ creating some commercial album work scanned in to Photoshop to play around with then I want to develop ideas and experimentation for this commercially but using my artwork as traditional media using abstract Photography and abstract painting experiments on paper promoting my favourite band through album cover designs and poster designs commercially scanning in to Photoshop to place the professional features such as logos, fonts etc.

The start of the project week one will be looking in to research such as Music genres, researching in to album covers, album cover sizes and posters linking with music to focus on also background history about ‘The Maccabees’ and then looking in to music in general and inspirational artists who design things commercially based around music. –Si Scott ‘There Is A Light That Never Goes Out’

there_is_a_light_that_never_goe_sout

This is a song by The Smiths and I really want to focus on using experimentation by hand traditionally creating type similar to the way Si Scott works creating experimentation via abstract backgrounds for development work in to Week three developing fonts developing computer based fonts via Dafont.com I would preferably like to use my initial ideas as traditional media and then create my final album cover designs as traditional media also, also in the process of this at the end of the project I will look at creating situ views of my design to show what it would look like in real life if made like this. My final piece will consist of one album cover design and one poster design traditionally my developmental work will consist of variations of developments and also mixed media experimentation then my initials will consist of 2 traditional outcomes 2 computer based outcomes for the album and same for the poster designs focusing on the final piece which will be traditional media use of one album cover and one poster design.

Rough sizing of my album cover will be an album size showing the front, (I am not focusing on the back) if I do have enough time I will focus on the back creating a special edition piece mixing songs I like on to this also burning a disc with the songs on too.

Poster sizing will be around A4 experimenting with one traditional and one computer based. I will be working from a sketchbook; I prefer this to working in A3 Display Folders.

Week One:

-Research in to Music, genres, inspirational artists, album covers, posters linking with music, Artists and Designers in general who base things around music, also background history on ‘The Maccabees’.

Weeks Two:

Continuing with Research materials also focusing on how this will reflect my work and my design ideas.

Week Three:

Start developing ideas and work experimenting with mixed media, computer based methods experimenting with fonts, traditionally and computer focused.

Week four:

Focus on initial ideas creating two solid ideas with experimentation with traditional abstract art and also computer based abstract art.

Weeks five:

Develop final pieces of album cover and the reverse of the album cover and poster design ideas.

Week six:

Structure this together within a net via a clipping mask via Illustrator and finalize the poster create a Solution to the assignment and Evaluation.

My other idea was to produce just an abstract orientation to this assignment using canvas work and scanning this in to manipulate via barcode adding and print the cd disc also track listings and keep my original image simple.

Using no computer methods simply scan in manipulate if needed or use manipulation use a font creator and produce fonts by hand to show traditional uses produce the back of the CD Cover with track listings on:
